Parks and Recreation Summer FUN Program

Affordable Drop-in Recreation Summer Program for Children in Santa Barbara

The Summer FUN drop-in recreation program for children entering first through sixth grades is offered June 10 – August 2, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. (excluding July 4). Breakfast and lunch is served by the Santa Barbara Unified School District Summer Feeding program. Recreation staff are trained to enhance your child’s summer fun experience by providing a wide variety of games, crafts, and recreation activities. All registered participants may drop-in to the program at any time as long as they sign-in and out with a staff member.

Priority Registration Week: April 22-26

Priority registration for eligible families takes place April 22-26 at the Carrillo Recreation Center, 100 East Carrillo Street.

To participate in the priority registration week, a parent or legal guardian must bring official documentation that either the parent, guardian, or child receives one of the following: CalFresh (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program); WIC (Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Services);
TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families); SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance); or SSI (Supplemental Security Income). Due to the high demand of this affordable recreation program, the PRIORITY registration day is likely to bring large crowds. Please come prepared; we will be processing registrations as quickly as possible.

Open Registration Begins April 29

Open registration begins on Monday, April 29 at the Carrillo Recreation Center during business hours. If the program is full, a parent or guardian can place their child on the Summer Fun Recreation Program waitlist. When spots in the program become available families at the top of the waitlist will be notified. Please note: Space is limited. A $25 non-refundable registration fee must be paid before your child is officially enrolled in the Summer Fun Recreation Program. This $25 non-refundable fee does not apply to participants placed on the program waitlist. If your child is on the waitlist and a spot in the program becomes available, the $25 nonrefundable registration fee is due before your child attends. In addition, children must attend the Summer Fun Recreation Program 3-days a week to remain eligible for the program. Exceptions may be made due to illness, emergencies, or participation in a camp scholarship administered by the Police Activities League: PAL.

Junior Counselors

Pick up an application at the Carrillo Recreation Center beginning Monday, March 11 at 9:00am. The application includes an activity registration form and additional 1-page questionnaire. Complete the application and submit it in person to the Carrillo Recreation Center or via email to aporte@santabarbaraca.gov. Please note: applications are due Friday, May 3 by 5:00pm. Applicants will be notified by Friday, May 24 if they have been accepted into the program. The $25 non-refundable registration fee will be due at this time.
